FROM DDBC: After a long process, two new gateways signs in downtown Dartmouth are HERE!
To get here, Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission started with putting out a Request for Proposals. After reviewing submissions, a contract was awarded to the chosen artists: Kristen De Palma (KDP Letters) and Jake Seibert (Talking Wall).
Alongside Kristen and Jake, DDBC consulted with the community, over 200 community members with feedback on designing the new signs.
The signs recognize that Dartmouth are in Mi’kma’ki and that are all treaty people. They contain both a land acknowledgement and a recognition of the contributions that the Black community has made to this part of Mi’kma’ki known as Nova Scotia.
You will notice that the artists used vibrant colours and captured the optimistic spirit of downtown Dartmouth, while celebrating Dartmouth’s past & looking to a bright future.
DDBC are working with the community and partners to find a new home for the old signs and look forward for both the old and new to be enjoyed for years to come.
