At 63, Maggie Rossiter looks great for her age.
Actually, Maggie Rossiter looks great for any age.
But as a Registered Nurse and Personal Training Specialist, Rossiter wants women to see that looking great is just a happy by-product of being healthy.
In a recent workshop entitled “Love Yourself for the Health of It,” Rossiter said that the ultimate goal of making lifestyle changes is not to fit into skinny jeans, but to be strong, flexible, confident and independent.
“As women, we often put ourselves last,” she said. “We don’t take time to eat properly or exercise.
“And unfortunately, we often accept labels as to what it means to be 40 or 50 or 60.”
Rossiter went on to tell her own story of working full time, caring for her family and caring for an aging parent. She said that for several years she ran on “adrenaline, cortisol and a one-small-Toblerone-a-day habit.”
She describes those years as bouncing between a caffeine buzz and a sugar low. “I was either wired or tired,” she explained with a laugh. “One day, I looked in the mirror. I couldn’t believe the person I saw.”
Rossiter turned things around by finding a personal trainer and setting herself a goal – to hone her body to International Natural Bodybuilding and Fitness standards.
With hard work and a new, healthier approach to fueling her body, she achieved that goal. Now her desire is to help other women on their own health and fitness journeys.
Rossiter runs a business called Liv It where she offers exercises and nutrition plans that work for middle-aged women with all body types and fitness levels.
Her clients come to her with a variety of goals such as losing weight, gaining strength or getting healthy enough to not need medication.”
“There are so many health issues that are preventable,” she said. “We don’t have to be frail at 80 years old.”
