Dartmouth’s Journeyman Film is in the business of telling stories, and there’s a good-news story to tell about it, too.

The eight-year-old content production company has outgrown its Ochterloney Street digs, and has purchased the former ABL Environmental building at the corner of Wentworth and Portland streets.

“I love the focused, local feel of downtown Dartmouth,” says Mathew Welsh, Journeyman’s executive producer and owner. “It’s got that lovely feeling of a small town, right next door to a big city.”

The company will be moving to its Portland Street home in November when renovations to transform the second floor into a “cool, funky” space for creative collaboration are complete.

Two street-level storefront spaces in the building are available to rent — a move that Welsh sees as adding to the ongoing rejuvenation of Portland Street.

“We’re really interested in contributing directly to the growth of this community. We work internationally, but we’re grounded locally.”
