Imagine 100 people gathered together in a bright, airy dining space to share a healthy, free meal. Imagine an empty field transformed into a colourful garden yielding food for a community. Imagine people, young and old, coming together to learn delicious new recipes. Imagine a vibrant weekly market offering a chance to gather and buy inexpensive produce.
All this, and more, is coming to Dartmouth North thanks to a partnership between Dartmouth Family Centre and Community Food Centres Canada.
“With the Dartmouth North Community Food Centre, we want to address a lot of factors that contribute to health,” says Deborah Dickey, the centre’s manager. “We want to improve access to healthy food. We want to foster a sense of community and tackle issues like isolation. We want to bring people together to share the vast knowledge this community has.”
Programming will begin on August 10th, and a grand opening celebration is scheduled for October.
